I often watch the program "Poles Abroad" and there is always a question to the participant: what do you miss the most from Poland?" The most common answer is precisely... pickled cucumbers!

They are one of the most recognizable elements of Polish tradition. Crunchy and juicy, they have an intense flavor - sour, salty and a slight note of umami, which makes them even tastier.

In my work "I only think about... delicious and crispy pickled cucumbers" I bring to mind the longing, the desire to eat delicious, home-made cucumbers. Because sometimes this desire is so great that you only think about them and impatiently wait until you can finally consume them with pleasure, that you yourself turn into such a cucumber 😁

The painting depicts a figure whose head has been replaced by a large jar full of green cucumbers. The jar is tightly closed with a yellow lid, and the entire background of the painting is intensely green, which enhances the contrast and gives the composition a surreal character.

The head in the jar symbolizes the state of being stuck in one's own thoughts, over-analyzing and isolation. The cucumbers in the jar bring to mind pickles, which suggests suppressed feelings. The surrealistic combination of a man with a jar of cucumbers gives the work a slightly grotesque, humorous tone. It also refers to the Polish tradition of pickling cucumbers, a humorous reference to mentality or nostalgia.
